"One of the Most Memorable Experiences of My Life!

I remember when my kids were born, my wedding day—and most of that night—but I’ll never forget my first gator hunt!
I’m not an avid hunter, though I’ve done my share of waterfowl and upland game hunts. When I first moved to Florida, I was honestly a bit uneasy about hunting in waters where something bigger might be hunting me. That all changed when I linked up with the team at Olde Florida Outdoors.

Admittedly, I was green—but these guys have the process down to a science. We were on the water at dawn, and the area was a target-rich environment. We were regularly spotting three to five gators at a time, which gave us the luxury of being selective. We had our first trophy gator in the boat by 8 a.m., and the second just before 10. Two monsters—one 10’4”, the other 10’6”.

Their method of spotting, stalking, and harvesting these big, bad reptiles was nothing like what I expected. It was still a challenge, but far more strategic—and smarter—than what you see on TV. The entire experience was exciting, engaging, and totally worth it.

I’m already planning to apply for tags next season, and I’ll be on the water with Olde Florida Outdoors again at the first chance I get—no question about it."

I had the pleasure of taking part in a Veterans' hunt guided by Greg Love of Olde Florida Outdoors. From the moment we met, I knew I was in good hands. Greg was extremely thorough and patient in explaining the process, setting realistic expectations, and emphasizing safety every step of the way.

Once we got out on the water, Greg expertly navigated the waterways while explaining how weather patterns affect gator movement and feeding habits. Even as a prior Sailor, I learned a lot about both the water and the weather—something I truly appreciated.

When we finally glassed a harvest-worthy gator, the real action began. Greg is an absolute smooth operator. He flawlessly worked the bait line, gave clear directions to the boat navigator, and walked me through each step of what I needed to do, all while helping us prepare the gear.

I’ll admit, the excitement and adrenaline caused me to make a few missteps, but Greg was right there beside me, ensuring both my safety and success. We landed a 9'9" gator, my first-ever harvest of any kind.

Greg’s knowledge, professionalism, and genuine kindness created an unforgettable experience—one I’ll remember and cherish for the rest of my life.

And just to add: Greg also has an underrated skill—he knows all the best food joints in St. Cloud and made sure we got some good grub after the hunt.

One last thing: Greg’s eyesight is otherworldly. He was spotting gators over 500 yards away with the naked eye, while I was struggling with a decent pair of binos. Truly impressive!
